Hazardous Materials

The DeLand Fire Department is proud to work alongside our neighboring departments to provide hazardous materials response to our citizens. We currently partner with Volusia County Fire Rescue, Deltona Fire Department, and the Orange City Fire Department to handle these types of emergencies.

Hazardous materials incidents are often long in duration and extremely technical. Fire department members are required to complete 160 hours of Hazardous Material Technician Training to be a part of the Haz-Mat team. The training focuses on response procedures, incident command, containment, chemistry, and mitigation. The DeLand Fire Department currently has 14 personnel that are trained at the Haz-Mat Technician level. This ensures that we have highly trained and knowledgeable responders on-scene in the event of a hazardous materials incident in our area.
